Just a quick update, its been a slow few days on the rebuild front. I was able to find a replacement cam chain guide which I have fitted. I have a chain also, though I have yet to compare the two to see if it is worth replacing.
Did a little cleaning on the lower crankcase half and am waiting to hear back from some manufacturers on the availability of custom made piston rings.
One thing I did start on was making up a custom seat pan. My existing one was full of rust and the seat foam about fell off. Stay tuned for some seat updates soon. I picked up some 16 gauge steel sheet to paly with...
Hi, I am rebuilding the same year KZ400. I am nearly finished but have encountered a few small issues, which until I fix them, has my project frozen. I was hoping that maybe you had some advice for other models that use the same gas cap, front brake caliper, and master cylinder. Any help would be seriously appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThe 78 KZ400 B model has a fairly unique fuel tank compared to the other year/models and thus the gas cap also is different to 90% of those you are going to find on ebay and 3rd party parts dealers and such.
ReplyDeleteI was in the same situation which is why I ended up buying a whole new tank from ebay, cap included. For the other stuff, im not sure. You can check out Kawasakis website which has parts diagrams and will show any interchangeable parts between model years, or maybe register and post at kzrider.com or kz400.com, lots of smart guys there that might know right away.
The brakes are more likely to be interchangeable I would say, I have certainly used different master cylinders on a previous bike I worked with.
Hey i am working on a 77 kz400 and i was wondering if you had any advice on installing the kick start spring thank you (:
